When I Grow Up, I Want To Be A ________ (fill in the blank)

When I think about Keni as an independent, mature, and (fingers crossed) gainfully employed adult, I wonder what he'll be like. What will his interests be? What will he do to earn a living? What is going to motivate him to get out of bed in the morning?

When we first met him, he loved lying on his back and tinkering with things. He would frequently roll under our Ikea Poang chair and get lost in the design of the underside. We thought "he's definitely going to be a mechanic when he grows up". That was a relatively short-lived phase and he moved on to the next obsession, buttons. He is a big fan of pushing buttons on all of our electronics. Perhaps he will be an air traffic controller or a film editor.

He is awfully dramatic, though. He can turn big tears on and off at the drop of a hat. This ability may suit him well in front of the camera as opposed to behind the scenes.

Also, he loves animals. He gets really excited when we look at photos of both wild and domesticated creatures and he is not afraid to pet a dog or kitty that he just met. Future pet groomer? Zookeeper? Dog Whisperer?

The boy loves firetrucks. Actually, I should open it up to any vehicle that has a siren. Maybe he'll be a fireman, an EMT or even a cop.

Anyone have any idea what a fondness for ceiling fans might lead one to pursue?

When I was a wee one, I had dreams of being a teacher, a professional figure skater, and a veterinarian (among other occupations). Who knows what the labor market will look like when Keni is 20, 30 and 50. When I was five, we didn't have User Experience Managers or Cloud Sherpas (heck, when I was 25, we didn't either).

Maybe, he'll end up like me and never really figure out the color of his parachute.

Future locksmith?
