Button Art

When we moved our desk and vinyl into the front room and transformed that empty space into Keni's bedroom, we left some of the walls blank. I enjoy taking my time when it comes to putting up photos, curtains, art and things that I find visually interesting. I am an interior design stick-in-the-mud.

For a long time, I have been wanting a map of the world or a map of Africa in his room so that we can regularly discuss and honor his beautiful birthplace.

I came across a few cool pieces and ideas, but I am now leaning toward making a map of the world happen when he is a bit older and we embark on a redesign to make it more "big boy" than baby.

Feeling a bit out of the crafty loop, I decided to experiment with buttons and see if I could create a shape that could pass as the continent of Africa. Although I didn't completely nail the dimensions, I am pleased with the results. Keni LOVES my silly little creation and it only cost $14.38 to make.

I put it up in his room this evening and he keeps pointing to it, exclaiming "Akika". Success.
